Places to live near Heathrow Airport?

Author: admin  |  Category: Car Heathrow London

I'm considering working at Heathrow Airport. I won't have a car. Where would be a good place to live between Heathrow and London. Cheap and cool.
Thanks.

Hounslow or Brentford are about the closest places, both are relatively cheap, not particularly cool though.

Other more 'cool' places on the way to Heathrow would be places like Hammersmith, Fulham, Acton and Earls Court. Ealing isnt bad either although perhaps a bit dull. All these are easily accessible on the underground from heathrow. In fact most of the rest of London is fairly easily accessible

Which airport is the closest to London City? Heathrow or Gatwick?

Author: admin  |  Category: Car Heathrow London

Is there any kind of shuttle transportation between those 2 airports and London? Trains for example? How long does the trip by train/car take to get to town?

Depends where you are going. If you are heading for "the City" as Londoners call the financial district, then Gatwick is the better bet. Although further out, there are direct trains from Gatwick to railway stations that are much closer to the city — ie. Kings Cross Thameslink, Farringdon, Blackfriars. This is NOT the same train as the Gatwick Express to Victoria station. It's a far better bet than slow and crowded Underground from Heathrow. The Heathrow Express comes in at Paddington which is way off on the other side of town.

How do we travel from Croydon to London?

Author: admin  |  Category: Car Heathrow London

We will be staying in the UK in Dec. 07. We're staying in Croydon, specifically near South Croydon. I can't find any info about the Tube being available in this area. I also can't find any info as to how we're going to get from London Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 to Croydon. My husband is seriously considering renting a car, which I'm against since we've never been to the UK before. How much do the taxis generally charge? Thank you.

Taxis will be expensive, probably in the region of £40-£70, though it is possible to book a private hire car for the journey. By car the journey is about 45-60 mins.

The cheapest way to go is by bus - the X26 travels from Heathrow to East Croydon and with an Oyster smart card will only cost 90p each! However you will need to get from East Croydon to South Croydon and the journey takes an hour and 45 mins! Timetable here: http://www.metrobus.co.uk/timetable.php?route_id=97&type=week

Otherwise the quickest option by public transport is train, as others have said.

Ignore what someone else said about Croydon - South Croydon is OK and some parts are very upmarket.

its a good joke was wondering where it was heaaded then had a good climax nice one

can a vito lwb van goes into London heathrow airport carpark?

Author: admin  |  Category: Car Heathrow London

I want to take my van to pick up a friend at heathrow airport, but not too sure that the car park gate is big enough for my van to drive in.

No, the gates will be too small… There are car parks outside the airport that a minibus can ferry you in - but that will be time consuming… the other alternative is if you park/hang about outside the airport (There is a mcdonalds drive in) get your friend to call you on your mobile as they collect there cases and then arrange a suitable pickup point outside one of the departure zones in a parking bay outside the appropriate terminal area. But you must not stay there for long or you will be asked to move on or if you decide to leave the van alone it will be ‘destroyed’ by the police - with no excuses accepted.
